Another Almost Done Blog

It is funny reading everyones blogs because everyone it talking about the last two weeks of school. I literally am finishing up my last few assignments and it is so nice! I am most excited about physics coming to an end!!!  All I have standing between me and physics being over is a three minute conversation about my final project. At first I was nervous about it and then I was like whatever...what could they really ask me in three minutes that is super hard to answer and if I don't know the answer maybe I can bs it or just make a joke. In the rest of my classes I pretty much just have finals to take besides finishing my methods paper, which is pretty much done!!

Summa Summa Summaaa TIme

Gosh I am so happy that summer is just right around the corner!! It will be a busy summer because of work and the two online classes I will be taking but everything is better in the summer! I can't wait to be at the river and floating while soaking in as much sun as I can. Then when I am not doing that I will be at music festivals and I loveeeeee music festivals. I am also excited for my job this summer because I will be working at the child development center and I was going to try and pick up a second job but decided to just get more hours at CDC so that means I have weekends off!

Can't believe we will all be on summer break in just two weeks! Also these two weeks are busy weeks for all of us so that means it will fly by.

Wedding Dress Shopping

First off I am not getting married haha. This past weekend I went wedding dress shopping with Scottie's sister, Tara. It was a lot of fun! Tara and her mom were funny to watch because her mom wanted a big ball gown dress and Tara did not. So we went somewhere on Friday and she thought she found THE DRESS but it was more than they wanted to spend. She obviously waited because she had made an appointment for Davids Bridal the next morning. We went to Davids Bridal and she found a dress she liked but still was not the one! We decided to take a break and go to the mall and meet the guys for lunch. Well in the mall there was a alteration/dry cleaner place that made wedding dresses and we decided to go in and they only kept 15 handmade dresses at a time. She tried on two and the second one was actually the one!! It is so beautiful and was actually cheap for it to be handmade! She was so excited and it was such a fun experience! Now I can't wait for the wedding. It is August 8, also didn't realize that she was apparently getting her dress late so that's good to know for the future haha.

SOA

As I have mentioned before I am addicted to Sons of Anarchy. There are seven seasons and the seventh season was the last. It aired this past year, which means it was not on amazon prime, netflix, or any streaming site like that and that meant I was having to wait to watch that season. I was debating about buying it because I want all of the seasons anyway and a couple of weeks ago Scottie told me he got me a surprise (and I love surprises) and the surprise was season 7!!! Needless to say I was really happy and he was too because he loves SOA also. This season has been crazy so far! We have been trying to watch it slow instead of rushing through it since it is the last season ever! But rumor has it that they are coming out with a movie and that would be awesome.

Just one more night

So Scottie and I came to Charlotte Thursday night because on Friday he dj'd at Chop Shop in Noda and it was awesome. We had a lot of fun and had green room access so we got to meet G. Jones which was amazing!!!! Then on Saturday we slept in and went to THE DISCOVERY PLACE and that is in all caps because it was awesome haha (i am such a little kid). After that we had dinner at the mall with Scottie's mom and went shopping because we all love Southpark. Now it's Sunday and we celebrated Scottie's dads birthday (it's tomorrow) and since it was raining we decided to stay one more night and we are getting up in the morning and head back to the high country.

favorite meme ever

also this is my favorite meme ever so I thought I would share since my last few blogs have been depressing and boring

Hope yall laugh as hard as I do about this!

I feel like...

A CHICKEN WITH ITS HEAD CUTOFF!
I thought I was ahead of the game and getting stuff done early, but that is impossible to do this semester. Between homework, studying, applying for jobs, starting a new job, meetings, and other life duties I have just been nonstop! I feel like I can barely find time to shower (but don't worry I have haha just have been like 5 minute showers). One good thing is that it is almost summer and I am excited for summer, just not looking forward for my two online classes. I am excited for working this summer because I love to make money. Just eleven days left of classes so exams will be here before we know it and then exams will be stressful and fly by then it will all be over!!!

POTS III

Well now I have had POTS for well over a year now and I pray everyday that I will eventually grow out of it. I try to stay positive and I think about how strong of a person it has made me and I also have became very appreciative of my health. It has been a long journey, I have lost friends because of it, missed out on many things, realized how great some of my true friends are, and grown as a person.

I am thankful for my friends and family who have helped me with this battle, but the ultimate MVP is Scottie. I would not be able to do half the things I have done if it was not for him and I can not thank him enough for everything he has done for me!

I do not want pity out of people because I have a syndrome I just like to get the awareness out there because a lot of people go to the doctor for the same symptoms and most doctors just say you are crazy and have anxiety, which is not true and the medicine they give does not help. Also I just want people to keep in mind to not judge people so quickly and remember that they also might have a health issue going on.

POTS II

So I will continue my story of having pots...
The first time I realized I was really battling with my health was the summer prior to being diagnosed and happened to be at Carowinds. I am from the eastern part of NC, so growing up I always went to Busch Gardens because it was close to where I am from. But Scottie is from Charlotte and his mom lives about 15 minutes from Carowinds, so I begged him to take me and he finally did...we were waiting in line for our first ride and all of a sudden I felt really bad and had to run and get water because I knew i was about to pass out. I felt all the color leave my face and if I did not get water soon, it was going to be my face against the concrete. Well I drank water and ate a pretzel then felt good enough to try and enjoy the rest of the day.

After this I still just kept feeling horrible and could not figure out what was going on. I had a appointment coming up for my yearly check up so I was just waiting to talk to her about it. In the meantime I was telling my best friend about the symptoms and she had already been diagnosed with POTS (she has the kind due to allergies) and she was convinced that I also had POTS. Went to the doctor and she ran test and most came back fine except for my EKG, so she set me up with a cardiologist. Went to the cardiologist and they set up a bunch of test and they came back negative and he confirmed that I did have POTS. So he put me on medicine which helped at first, but now it doesn't really work the best so I just have to eat a strict diet, drink lots of water, and eat lots of salt. The down fall is even though I do all of that some days I still do not feel the greatest, which sucks.

to be continued....

POTS

Since I have not really had much going on because I have had so much school work this week, I have decided to write about POTS. I am not talking about the drug I am talking about Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. I was diagnosed with this syndrome November of 2014 and had been battling the symptoms for over a year prior to that. There are two different types one is caused by your heart, which is what I have and the other is from allergies. It is a very complicated syndrome and I still do not fully understand it, but apparently when I was growing my heart did not shift into my rib cage like it was suppose to. Since it did not do that my heart just beats funny which causes me to pass out very easily and my body passes out because my heart starts beating so fast to the point where if I did not pass out I would have a heart attack. Other symptoms are that I am thirsty all of the time (that's why you see me drinking water all of the time), I see floating spots, I get fatigue very quick, frequent headaches, and loss of appetite. Another aggravating aspect of having POTS is since my heart rate can not get but so high I can not exercise much or do things like going on a hike.

That is all I will bore you with for now, and will pick up on my next blog! Enjoy this beautiful weather everyone!!

whiplash

Last night I finally had time to watch a movie! I was so excited because Scottie and I use to watch movies all of the time, but school has been really hectic this year. I have a watch list saved on my amazon account and whiplash was on the top. So we went with that and let me tell you that movie was amazing! JK Simmons completely deserved his Oscar for that roll. I highly recommend it...probably one of the best movies I have watched in a while. My heart was pounding the whole movie. Also Miles Teller is in it and I think he is good looking so that helped haha and that reminds me if you like Miles Teller you need to watch The Spectacular Now (it's on amazon prime for free).

GREYS ANATOMY

I am a Grey's Anatomy fan girl! My mom and I have watched it since the first season and I have never missed an episode. I feel like the people on the show are my friends (it's a little sad). Anyways I knew this season was going to be very different because one of the main characters, Christian Yang,  left. This season started off horrible it was so slow and I was quite disappointed. I kept watching because after 11 seasons I could not give up just like that. But I made the right decision because the past few episodes have been awesome...I knew my girl Shonda Rhimes (the creator of the show) would not let me down haha. Know I will just wait patiently to see what happens next Thursday!

nat and anna banana

Two of my very best friends for as long as I can remember are Natalie and Anna. The three of us had stayed friends forever and have been through almost everything together. I honeslty have no idea what I would have done without them in High School.

They are more like sisters because their families are seconds families to me (that includes dogs and cats also haha) and their houses are second homes to me. It is very comforting to know that I will always have these two girls as friends because I can go to them for anything! I am thankful everyday that the four of us meet each other and have been the best of friends since.

blah blah blog

Blogging is a little difficult right now. I feel like it is that time of the semester where everything gets really hectic. And before we know it this semester will be over (which is not a bad thing!!) I feel like I have been doing a lot of homework and applying for summer jobs. Luckily this week I do not have too much going on, but still enough to keep me busy and so I do not get behind. Sorry for the boring blog everyone. Hopefully something exciting happens soon so I can write about it! Well I should probably get back to studying for audiology.

Productive

I have had an extremely productive weekend and it is only half way through the weekend! I decided since I was doing the 5k on saturday that I should not do anything friday night. Since I was just sitting around my place I decided to watch the Often Awesome Series and I actually enjoyed this homework assingment. I finished writing all the essays last night and today I am going to try and finsh the seires because it is too good to not watch the whole thing.

Then this morning I woke up and completed my first 5k. Honestly I did not know what to expect. All I knew was that I would be walking majority of the time haha. It took my friend, Elizabeth, and I 54 minutes (which I am quite proud of).  Also 3.3 miles did not seem nearly as long as I thought it would.

Spring Break

I was really bummed that I had not planned some awesome get away for spring break, but then by the last day I was really pleased with my spring break. It was mainly a relaxing spring break that I spent with my parents and a few close friends.

I actually did some shadowing for a SLP at an elementary school. It went really well and I liked the school system more than I suspected too. I shadowed outside of Raleigh so I stayed with my aunt and fortunately enough she had an extra ticket to the play Kinky Boots! The play was absolutely amazing; it had a great story line and so much sass!

Then on Thursday my mom treated me to a spa day. It was my first time getting a massage and facial. And all I have to say is it will not be my last! I especially fell in love with the facial, it felt like my skin was glowing afterwards.

The Crud

Last Friday I had a little post-nasal drip action, so I tried to stop it from turning into anything worse and it lasted for about two days and now I've got what I like to call "the crud." The crud is when you don't know if you are actually sick or if its a combination of little sleep mixed with sinuses. I have been taking medicine and drinking hot tea with honey, and it seems to be helping...but I have learned that medicine sometimes just makes you so out of it that you don't really know if you are sick or not haha. That is how I feel now so if I seem a little out of it this week it is most likely the meds making me that way. All I care about is that it doesn't get any worse so I can get through this week!

Baby Elin

This weekend I traveled to Ohio with Scottie and his mom. We went to Ohio to visit his brother and sister-in-law because they had a baby!! Scotties mom got to say a week when they had her three weeks ago, but this was the first time scottie and I got to meet her!

Her name is Elin Grace Roe, and she is just the sweetest little thing! She is so tiny and we were all so happy that we were able to spend the weekend with her. Obviously with choosing this field so study most of us love kids, so getting to be around a baby this weekend was so much fun. Everyone in the family is excited because she is the first baby.

It was a long drive for just the weekend, but totally worth meeting this little cutie!!!

1 order of common sense please!

Lauren aka lolo (lol) and I love to complain to each other about our crappy roommates. As complaining I decided it would be good to write a blog about it because it seems like they have no common sense and sometimes I wish I could just buy common sense for someone...but then life would be way to easy.

I don't know if it is just because the way their parents raised them, but the seem to completely be unaware of others around them and just plain selfish. Guess it's not a true college experience if you don't lose some friends and then they become crappy roommates! Anyways rant over..now back to being positive!

It's still a library....

Not sure if it is monday or what, but the people in the library have been quite aggravating today!
I know I am in the basement so people are okay to talk down here, and that's why I chose it because I work better with some noise around me. Then if it gets a little too loud I put my head phones on and get back to work...BUT if i can still hear your annoying laugh to the girl that looks like she is on a coffee date right now or hear the other girl on the phone having an extremely personal conversation you are probably being too loud.

Time flies

Well this weekend was awesome, but went by crazy fast! I went with Scottie to visit his family in mooresville and charlotte. His dad and stepmom just built a new house in mooresville so we wanted to see the new house and he little brother sean! We hungout with them and then decided to check out the new bowling alley with friends and that was actually a lot of fun! The bowling wasn't that expensive, but the drinks were outrageous...in return we all had a great time.

Then saturday we headed down to downtown charlotte where his mom lives. Like always we made our way to the mall and I got two pair of shoes on sale, so I was really happy about that. Then we went back to his moms and spur of the moment decided to go to the hornets game. At first I was like whatever and then I got there and was super pumped..haha! So it turned out to be a great time, and after that instead of just walking home we stopped at Connolly's (a bar) and grabbed a few drinks then walked home to end our eventful Saturday.

And if that was not a great enough weekend on Sunday I got to eat at Zoe's Kitchen, which is awesome and then got my grocerys from trader joes for the next two weeks. (I have a slight obsession with trader joes)

Hope everyone else had a great weekend, and I am trying to not let this dreary monday bring me down!

Cali Roots

My dad was born and raised in southern California and then moved to NC when we has 18. The rest of his family is still in California, and we get to visit out there quite a bit. Cold days like today make me wonder why I have not moved there yet because it is a high of 60 where my family lives today.

This is my sweet cousin Kayden, and probably the one I miss the most when I am not in California.  We might not get to see each other much, but we have a bond like no other. I am hoping I will get back out there this summer to see her, and of course the rest of my amazing family.

My last trip to California was this summer for my cousin Adam's wedding. We were all so happy that Adam met a perfect girl, Audrey (Adam is quite wild and we thought he would never settle down). The wedding was gorgeous, and I think most peoples dream wedding. Since, Adam is quite wild we defintely had a good time at the wedding!

I have a huge love for California, and it probably has a lot to do with majority of my family living there...but I have said many times if the right opportunity comes along I would move out there in a heartbeat. So if you ever hear that I am moving to cali don't be surprised!

SNOW

Everyone's post has been about the snow! I am so excited it finally snowed!! I love the snow, and do all the corny stuff you are suppose to do when it snow. Yesterday I decided to slack and do the bare minimum of homework that I needed to do, and that was a lot of fun but today I am having to do homework so I do not get to behind this week. I did get a test postponed til Thursday, so that's pretty exciting haha. Other than that me and Scottie thought it would be fun to play guitar hero, so that's all I have been up to. Everyone enjoy the snow while you can!!!

The people I love

This weekend was full of me surrounding myself with the people I love. I mentioned earlier I was getting out of town for the weekend, which was really nice because sometimes I just need a different view. Scottie and I went to Pinehurst, where my grandparents live, and my parents and aunt met us. We had such a great weekend just in each others company. On Saturday we celebrated Valentine's Day and had an early celebration for my mom's birthday. The highlight of the night was steak and lobster for dinner! This was a much needed weekend, and so glad I was able to spend it with my family and Scottie!

Talk about a week

I would rather not bore yall with my complaints and rants about this week because I feel like we have all had a long stressful week! Instead I will tell yall what has been giving me motivation to get through this week! First I am looking forward to this weekend because I get to see my parents, and my awesome boyfriend was cool with having a family weekend to celebrate my moms birthday for valentines day (it also probably helps that my parents tend to like Scottie more than me sometimes). Second I have been listening to Hozier because he is awesome...I advise everyone to listen to him. I have many favorite songs by him, but I particularly love From Eden! Third I like to stretch at night before bed, something about it just helps me relax; I also have one of those mask with the cooling beads because my eyes hurt from doing work all day and looking at a computer (it might look crazy on, but it feels amazing). Then lastly I do cry about all the madness and eat sweet foods, but I try my best no to do this all the time. Although I am a sole believer in the fact that cry is good for the soul! One last thing that my mom and grandma have always told me is this too shall pass, which really helps to remember when things get hectic!

Oil pulling?

I started oil pulling last night..not sure if any of you know what oil pulling is, but you use coconut oil or sunflower seed oil and swish it in your mouth for twenty minutes. The benefits for oil pulling is to help whiten your teeth and detox them from cavities (other people believe it does a bunch of other crazy things, but these are the only ones I care about haha). It is recommend to do it when you are showering because you do not really think about it since 20 minutes and that is a long time for swishing something in your mouth! I know this sounds like some crazy thing to do, but I have bad teeth (which is genetic so thanks mom and dad) and I try to take the best care of them. Unfortunately it does not matter how well I brush my teeth or floss religiously, my teeth still manage to get a cavity...so hopefully this oil pulling does miracles for my teeth!

Sunny and 60

This weather has been unreal for Boone in February. I had planned to do homework majority of the day, but instead took advantage of the weather because I can do homework once the sun goes down. I have been a little stressed about school, and this sunshine took all of that away. I did not really even do anything special outside... it was just nice to go outside and not have to even worry about a jacket. My exciting outside event was getting my car washed! I know that is lame, but I can be a little bit of a clean freak and thought it was a perfect day to get that done. Also I went to the new car wash and thought it cleaned my car up real nice.

Days like today remind me why I live in a town with such harsh winters!

Cooking

I love to cook! My dad is the cook in our family and is an amazing cook, so as a child I was always his sous-chef. I learned a lot of cooking tips from him, which has been very helpful and I can always call him when I have a question. I get really excited when I am cooking a new recipe and last night I made Italian sausage spinach potato soup. It turned out great, and I love cooking soup because it cooks so much and is better leftover. As much as I love cooking anything, I prefer to bake; which is cool an all except for the calories that come with it, so I try to leave the baking for special occasions.

Also the new thing I have been making a lot of is spinach artichoke dip! And it is a lot easier than it seems so go make some if you like it and I promise it will be one of the best decisions you have made in a while.

Jammed pack weekend

Since I forgot to blog about each thing that went on this past week and weekend I'll just write about all of it at once. I love to take advantage of legends because we are really lucky to have that at our university, and PAPER DIAMOND came...btw he is awesome!! I went to that on Wednesday and really enjoyed it. Of course on Thursday I was at basil's after I got all my school work done. Instead of going home after eating at basil's scottie and I decided to go to our great friends house, Kylie and Greg, to watch sons of anarchy. Come Friday morning scottie and I decided it was probably best to not do anything that night because it was so cold, and all we ended up doing was back at Kylie and Greg's so that the boys could play piano late into the night as we sat by the fire. I also was resting myself up for Saturday because we had friends coming into town for The Mantras (another band that I love!) at Boone Saloon! Saturday night was so much fun, we ended up making it front row and danced all night. Then walking home from saloon I get a text that I had won the raffle, which I had completely forgotten about, so needless to say I was jumping up and down in excitement. Obviously I watched the super bowl, and according to my boyfriend it's a national holiday; I was only excited about all the food we made and the halftime show. As I wrote this I realized how awesome this weekend was, and to stay positive and make this an awesome week!

Back on Track

For some reason this semester it has been so difficult for me to get back into the swing of things! Winter break was just too good to me. I have not necessarily gotten behind, except for forgetting about my blog post (to fix that I put a reminder on my laptop), it's more been the lack of motivation this semester. I really think it has to do with it being so cold because all I want to do is lay in my bed wrapped up in blankets. Once the sun is out and the wind stops I have a whole new burst of energy! But as well all known that has been really rare this semester. I normally love the winter and love the snow, but so far this year it has only been wind and ice. I am thinking this will be the week to get back into the groove of things! And hopefully my reminder will help me with getting my blogs done because I have plenty to write about!!

Sunday, January 25, 2015

To start I will introduce myself and write a little about me. My name is Janie Thompson, I am 21 years old, and just started my first semester as a senior at Appalachian state. I am studying communication sciences disorders (hence the name of the blog), and plan on becoming a Speech Language Pathologist after graduate school; I also am minoring in Special Education. Whenever my life is not consumed with school I use that time to go to concerts/festivals, watch Sons of Anarchy or Live with Kelly and Michael, drink a craft beer at Basil's, eat something to fix my sweet tooth, snowboarding, and spend quality time with the people I love. As I am doing all of those things it is very strange for my boyfriend to not be doing those things with me. His name is Scottie and we are going on our 3rd year of dating, so I'm sure I will be mentioning him in many of my blog post. Two other people that I feel like I should mention are my parents because I am extremely close with them and they play a huge role in my life. I have never thought about writing a blog, but now that the opportunity has come available I am pretty stoked about it and can't wait to read my classmates.
